Introduction: Getting started

We kick off your flute journey by laying some groundwork. Learn how to use the learning platform, find a healthy practice mindset, and assemble and care for your flute. All these are important foundations as you get going!
Week 1: Creating a sound

Off we go! We start at the very beginning and teach you how to get a basic tone on the flute with my tried and tested beginner’s teaching approach. To ensure you have the correct foundations in place, we take a deeper look at breathing and posture and get you ready for your next steps!
Week 2: Learn how to hold the flute

Now that we are starting to find your sound, it’s time to expand and practice your skills. Discover how to use your tongue to start notes correctly, learn how to hold the flute with ease, and strengthen the skills you have already learned in a fun, creative practice session!
Week 3: Learn your first song

Ready to play your first few notes and learn your first song? This week, we dive into your first piece of music, teaching you how to learn and practice for maximum results. Never learned to read sheet music? Our bonus Crash Course in Reading Music is here to help!
Week 4: Rhythm and counting

Do you know what one of the most important musical skills is? Learning how to count well! We are about to lay strong rhythmic foundations and teach you how to use your best friend, the metronome. Plus, we are practicing everything we have learned so far, strengthening your skills and getting ready to go to the next level!
Module 2:
Week 1: Tone practice & fun pieces

You did it! You made it to the second module of this program. We start by teaching you a new note, introducing you to an important tone practice habit and learning some fun pieces. From Sibelius to Offenbach, we’ve done our best to find beautiful melodies that will really appeal to you, our adult students!
Week 2: Articulation & more

On we go, learning new notes, strengthening your music reading and counting while developing your articulation (tonguing skills), tone, breathing and so much more. By this stage, you are in the thick of it!
Week 3: New notes and new music

As we continue adding new notes, we start being able to play more and more interesting pieces. Discover pieces from all over the world, including my own country, South Africa!
Week 4: Prepare for the second register
8 lessons⎹ 50 mins
We wrap up the second module and prepare to make the important jump to the second register on the flute. To do this, we must navigate the C to D transition. Plus, enjoy beautiful music and the ability to learn your first scale! Sound exciting? It is!
Module 3:
Week 1: Refining work

Things are really starting to take shape. Now that your tone is starting to settle, it is time to do some refining work. We take you through a workshop designed to help you understand the complexities of flute tone as we continue to climb to higher and higher notes on the flute. This is a challenging new phase, but with good foundations in place, you are ready for it!
Week 2: Expanding on rhythm

Ready to learn a new rhythm? We expand your rhythmic repertoire and teach you some practice fundamentals that will become part of your practice routine going forward. This is where good, lasting practice habits are set, all while learning known and loved tunes!
Week 3: Exploring the low register

We learn a new note and explore the low register on the flute. Beware, the low register is a real challenge, but with all the amazing work you have already put in, you will be ready to tackle it!
Week 4: Bringing it all together!

As we get ready to send you off into the big wide world of flute playing, we add a final important rhythmic concept to your skillset and help you play one of my absolute favorite pieces of music for this level. It is our biggest goal to see you graduate from this wonderful program and move on to greater things

Hi, my name is Tatiana and for the past 10 years, I’ve had the joy of teaching hundreds of adult students around the world to play the flute.
In 2016, I started a YouTube channel to help flutists everywhere gain easy access to high-quality flute teaching that’s fun, engaging and most of all - human. As much as I teach flute skills, I am just as passionate about teaching you, the person behind the flute.
