What you will learn in the Developing program:
The early-intermediate program is made up of 12 step-by-step modules designed to help you learn new skills, pieces, scales and studies in a fun and engaging way. To help you stay motivated and on track, we have divided up the program into two stages each consisting of 6 modules. You can sign up for 1 or both stages of the program. While the program should take 12-18 months to complete, there is no time pressure. This is the beauty of online learning!
Here is a breakdown of each module in this program:
Stage 1:
Before we get stuck into the content, we want to make sure that you start off this journey the RIGHT way. So, with our short intro series, we help guide you through the basics of how to get the most out of your practice and this program, while getting your head into the right space.Â
Learn the third register F and so that you can play the 2-octave F major scale. Practice the two-octave D minor scale and arpeggio and learn what the melodic minor is. Develop your tone and fingers with technical and tone exercises. Enjoy the step-by-step piece and study learning method to help you learn two studies and beautiful pieces of music by Handel and others.
Practice the C major and A minor scale and arpeggio. Explore embouchure flexibilty and strengthen your low register while continuing to develop your high register. Discover the 6/8 time signature and learn how to effortlessly play studies and pieces in this key signature. Learn two studies and two piece so that you can perform it with confidence and ease by the end of the month.
Practice the high register D#, F#, and G while learning G major and E minor scale and arpeggio in two octaves. We also learn the basic crescendo and decrescendo and integrate it into your studies and pieces.Â
We practice the 2-octave D major and extend the B minor scale up to the 12th. We look at various aspects of breathing and stretch yourself with some more challenging pieces and studies.
We practice the Bb major and G minor scale and become more comfortable with playing in two flats. Extend your rhythm and counting skills with some exercises, studies and pieces designed to push your limits!Â
We wrap up these 6 months of the program by revising our scales and incorporating some of the skills you have learned along the way to create a beautiful piece of music.Â
Stage 2:
Learn a new key: Eb major and discover pieces and studies in these wonderful keys! We also take time to practice intervals and strengthen your low register.
Learn to play in the key of A major and F# minor and expand your skills further with fun pieces and studies. We also continue to practice your breathing and intervals while taking on a beautiful piece of music.
Take your articulation to the next level as we revise the keys you have already learned and introduce you to some more challenging pieces of music!
We take on all your major scales again, revising and testing them while also helping you get faster and more fluid fingers. Prepare to see those fingers start to move!
We have dedicated a whole module to just revising your melodic minors. They are such a challenge! Along with this, though, we play an incredibly beautiful piece of music that will make all the melodic minor practice worthwhile!
Ready to test all the scales? We take on your scales and help you switch between them seamlessly. We also take a look at ornaments. Learn how to play gracenotes, mordents and turns. Enjoy some more challenging pieces and studies as you prepare for the next level!
By the end of this program you will be able to:
Play your scales up to 3 sharps and flats (majors and minors!)
Play with a more focused and consistent tone
Be more confident in your skills as a flutist
Play pieces on the grade 3 exam lists!
Have a faster and more fluid finger technique
